JOB SUMMARY

Context

A Clinical Fellow post is available based in the National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC), initially for 1 year but with the potential to extend it. It is suitable for a clinical trainee with a haematology background, who wishes to gain experience in the clinical condition or clinical research. The NAC forms part of the Centre for Amyloidosis and Acute Phase Proteins and is located at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The Centre maintains a longstanding high profile clinical and basic science research programme and serves as the national referral centre for patients with amyloidosis and inherited periodic fever (auto-inflammatory) syndromes

Main purpose of the job

Amyloidosis is a multi-system disease that encompasses many specialties. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of the clinical services within the Centre (National Amyloidosis Centre and Cardiac MRI Department) and will contribute to the clinical research program within the Centre. The post holder will have many opportunities to gain experience in the diagnosis and assessment of multisystem disease including clinical assessment, specialist imaging and laboratory testing and use of new therapeutics. There is potential to and the candidate is encouraged to contribute to the centres clinical research in areas such as cardiac MRI scanning, proteomics, genetics, and clinical trials with novel agents in amyloidosis. The centre conducts a range of clinical trials in ATTR, AL and hereditary amyloidosis.

There would be potential for a enrolling for a PhD. If the successful candidate is a SpR with a National Training Number (NTN) s/he should apply prospectively to the JRCPTB to discuss any educational or clinical credit which may be achieved from the post.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Participate in outpatient clinical commitments in the National Amyloidosis Centre to gain a unique understanding of plasma cell disorders and amyloid-related diseases.

2. To work with other clinical fellows in the centre and provide appropriate clinical cross cover for within the unit and provision of advice to other centres.

3. To manage and care for clinical trial patients with amyloidosis.

4. Other clinical duties will be agreed in consultation with the post holder. There are no on-call commitments as part of the role, but it may be possible for on-call commitments to be arranged if so desired by the post holder.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

* To contribute to the overall activities of the research team and Centre as required.
* To attend meetings and lectures as scheduled within the Centre.
* To undertake an amount of teaching in relation to subject area as requested.
* To contribute to the induction and direction of other staff and students as requested.
* The duties of the post outlined above are not exhaustive and the post holder will be expected to be cooperative and flexible, undertaking any other duties which are consistent with the post.
* The post holder will maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety Regulations.
* The post holder must at all times carry out their responsibilities with due regard to the Trust's policies including Equal Opportunities policies.

* Ensure adherence to guidance on expense policies and leave
* Ensure demand management for test requests

RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEADING AND MANAGING

* Ensure good time management to balance time between clinical and non-clinical duties.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES

* Ensure compliance with data protection act and local Trust Information Governance policies.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

* Ensure high quality research data is collected.
* Ensure that the data conforms to Trust guidelines for confidentiality and Information Governance.
* Aim to publish data.
