Overview

Health & Safety Officer – £31,200 - £36,400 per annum (salaries vary depending on experience). Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Department: Estates - Health & Safety. Location: AGP Littlemore, Oxfordshire. Response is recruiting for a Health & Safety Officer within our Estates - Health & Safety Team. The primary responsibility is to support the Head of Health, Safety and Fire to promote a safe work environment for employees and safe housing for our clients in compliance with current legislation and industry best practices.


What You'll Be Doing

Receive structured training and mentoring to develop skills required to create effective risk assessments (including fire risk assessments, COSHH and DSE assessments), develop policies, conduct investigations and complete audits and inspections throughout the Response organisation. You will be required to complete NEBOSH General Safety within one year of appointment and, on completion, join IOSH as an affiliate member.

Core Duties

* Maintain health & safety and fire safety metrics, providing data to complete monthly and quarterly reports.
* Assist with H&S and Fire Safety training, inductions and toolbox talks, aiming to deliver training as skills and knowledge develop.
* Monitor H&S and Fire Safety QR returns, flag issues of concern for investigation and ensure suitable and sufficient make safe arrangements are in place.
* Act as AGP-appointed person, monitoring first aid and fire marshal provisions and flagging issues or improvements required. Ensure all weekly, monthly, 6-monthly and annual inspections are recorded.
* Arrange health and safety committee meetings and actively participate.
* Assist with completing risk assessments and maintaining a register of assessments, review dates and issue reminders as necessary.
* Work collaboratively to continuously improve skills and knowledge of the wider team, supporting ongoing H&S and Fire Safety knowledge throughout Response.
* Develop relationships with contractor/partner review meetings and site visits. Act as a visible and proactive link between Response and partnerships.
* Consistently model H&S and Fire Safety best practice, leading by example and in accordance with IOSH code of conduct.
* Attend all mandatory training required to complete and maintain the role, ensuring up-to-date knowledge of changes to relevant laws and legislation.
* Comply with safeguarding policies and procedures for Adults and Children and Young People.
* Comply with all Health and Safety measures to keep people we support, visitors, colleagues and yourself safe by conducting regular checks within all areas and departments as required.
* Represent the company professionally, including punctuality, personal appearance and boundaries, and uphold equal opportunities.

* A good standard of English to understand and articulate concepts of a Level 3 qualification (A-level equivalent).
* Experience working to strict deadlines without compromising content and service.

* Observation skills with attention to detail to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.

* Strong planning, organisational and time management skills.
* Proactivity to identify concerns before they become incidents.
* A clean UK driving licence.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure.
* Sensitivity to the needs of vulnerable individuals.
