West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a substantive, full‑time Respiratory Consultant with a subspecialty interest in Bronchiectasis, Host Defence/TB, and a secondary interest in Asthma, alongside general respiratory medicine. You will join a dynamic, collaborative department of 14 respiratory consultants delivering high‑quality inpatient, outpatient, and virtual hospital care across our three sites: Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital, and St Albans City Hospital.
The successful candidate will lead and develop our Bronchiectasis/Host Defence service, contribute to asthma MDTs, and support a range of clinical services across all sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide inpatient care on the 30‑bedded respiratory ward and 8‑bedded Acute Respiratory Care Unit, including participation in the NIV on‑call rota and weekend ward rota.
* Support our award‑winning Virtual Hospital and hot clinic pathways, enhancing care closer to home.
* Participate in bronchoscopy, TB, and asthma services, and engage in service innovation.
* Run specialist outpatient clinics: Bronchiectasis/Host Defence, TB, Difficult Asthma, and a mixed triage session.
* Take part in virtual hospital cover (1 in 10 weeks) managing urgent respiratory referrals and hot clinics.
* Lead and participate in Bronchiectasis MDT meetings and contribute to Asthma and TB MDTs.
* Support junior doctors and allied health professionals as an Educational Supervisor.
* Participate in audit, service development, and departmental governance activities.
* Contribute to education, governance, and research as part of a friendly and supportive consultant team.
Core departmental hours are Monday‑Friday, 8:00‑17:00, with 1:10 weekend NIV on‑call and 1:12 weekday NIV commitments. There is no General Internal Medicine rota commitment. Full details of the job plan and on‑call arrangements will be discussed at interview.

A new hospital has been planned for Watford, and a new four‑roomed Endoscopy Unit at St Albans is scheduled to complete in 2026.
