Job overview
Barts Health NHS Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and talented band 7 specialist nurse to join the Acute Oncology and Cancer of Unknown Primary (AOS/CUP) Service for 12 months to cover maternity leave.
The post will be 1.0 WTE, based across Newham Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital and Royal London Sites to provide the best possible care to patients presenting with acute complications of their known or suspected cancer or its treatment. The post holder will provide training and guidance for A&E, acute on take, and general medical teams managing oncology patients.
We seek a nurse with excellent up-to-date specialist oncology knowledge and skills. The right candidate will help deliver high standards of patient care, training for colleagues, and develop service innovations in line with NCAG guidance and NHS England Measures for Acute Oncology, Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression, and Cancer of Unknown Primary. Strong communication skills are essential to act as a key worker for oncology patients, liaise with healthcare professionals, and teach members of the MDT about AOS and oncological emergencies.
The post holder must work autonomously as a specialist nurse but also as part of a multidisciplinary team across Bart's Health Trust's hospital sites. Experience of AOS and CUP is preferable. Secondments will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as an expert practitioner providing direct specialist care to cancer patients across Barts Health NHS Trust and advise non-oncology medical teams. The goal is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care for patients with acute cancer complications or those with malignancies of unknown primary in non-specialist areas.
Working for our organisation
Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts, renowned for excellence and innovation, and committed to providing safe, high-quality care and fostering an inclusive, supportive work environment.
