Responsibilities
* Efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the Portfolio of Projects and maintain regular liaison with all stakeholders.
* Set and maintain the structure, roles, responsibilities and competencies required to deliver project commercial management services efficiently and to a consistent high standard.
* Build a high performing team, onboard new team members, develop personal plans, establish objectives/targets for all direct reports and monitor ongoing performance; coach and mentor as necessary.
* Delegate appropriate work to direct reports while maintaining accountability; identify training needs and plan development and training for Commercial Practitioners, including APC or equivalent pathways.
* Promote a culture of contractual and commercial awareness within the portfolio; ensure adherence to group procedures and governance; contribute to Business Plan strategy.
* Develop and implement a clear commercial strategy for the portfolio; participate in tender commercial strategy and review contractual obligations and commercial risks.
* Provide assurance that contracts are administered correctly and in a timely, professional manner through regular reviews of contract administration, change control, risk/opportunity management and contract payment mechanisms.
* Maximise cash position, including WIP control, cash flow production and improvement plans for all projects; engage in work-winning duties as required, including client presentations and tender interviews.
* Identify recoveries from insurance policies and liaise with the Insurance department as appropriate.
* Implement and attend monthly project reviews to assess portfolio performance and take appropriate action; engage pre-construction and operational delivery teams for handover processes; manage disputes with clients and subcontractors where appropriate.
* Advise on required contractual insurances, bonds, warranties and parent company guarantees; influence and support management of the project supply chain including subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
* Identify, mitigate and manage risk and opportunities; lead work-winning processes and allocate resources to commercial elements; explain portfolio performance to the Executive Team when required.
* Negotiate contract conditions within key risk parameters and ensure compliance with year-end audit requirements; monitor out-turn cost and value in real time with monthly forecasting.
* Support the management of main contracts, sub-contracts and consultant final accounts as necessary; undertake other work as required by the Commercial Director, including assistance in emergencies.
Qualifications
* Degree qualification
* Understanding of programming techniques and project controls
* Leadership skills; computer literacy with strong Microsoft Office skills (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint)
* Commercially astute with substantial proven experience in a commercial role in the construction industry and experience within a building main contractor
* Expert knowledge of standard forms of contract and standard methods of measurement
