The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service is looking to recruit an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to be part of our mainstream schools team. They would consider the post as a Band 5 to Band 6 development opportunity for the right candidate.
This exciting role provides the successful candidate with an opportunity to develop their assessment and therapeutic skills, working with children aged 5 years and above, who have language difficulties as their primary need.
The successful candidate will deliver a speech and language therapy service for children and young people with language disorder within the Doncaster community. They will provide independent assessment and treatment of children as well as developing and implementing specialist programmes of care and treatment for individual patients with communication difficulties. They will be an integral part of the mainstream schools team, participating in the ongoing development of universal and targeted resources and training for internal and external colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to:
1. Be a qualified clinician within their speciality
2. Provide clinical expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of therapeutic care for patients within their care / speciality
3. Manage own caseload and to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of patients.
4. Work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of patients.
5. Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources available within the team.
6. Work with other members of the team in the development of the service.
7. Ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.
8. Represent the Therapy Team and contribute to the development of the wider Therapy service within Clinical Therapies.
Working for our organisation
The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Speech and Language Therapy Service is a team of 28 therapists and therapy assistants working across multiple clinical pathways but all delivering the very highest levels of care to our paediatric caseloads.
Team leads are in place to offer operational support along with clinical specialists available to provide clinical support. Clinical supervision is available for all staff.
As a teaching hospital, opportunities are available to participate in research. The department has a track record of successful applications to Health Education England – National Institute for Health Research clinical academic programmes with staff participating in the Internship and Pre-Doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship schemes.

Qualifications/ Training
Essential criteria
18. Professional specific degree i.e. BSC speech sciences or Masters in medical sciences.
19. Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
20. Completion of the RCSLT Newly Qualified Practitioner Goals
21. Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
22. Car driver
Experience
Essential criteria
23. Relevant undergraduate experience of working with a paediatric caseload
24. Relevant undergraduate experience of working with a range of assessment tools and appropriate therapeutic interventions
25. Relevant undergraduate experience of working with children with language difficulties and/or DLD
Desirable criteria
26. Relevant undergraduate experience of using AAC e.g. symbols, communication boards
27. Relevant undergraduate experience of working with multidisciplinary teams
