An opportunity has arisen within Laboratory Medicine for a full time position as Specimen Reception Supervisor. The successful candidate will oversee the smooth running of specimen receptions within the three hospitals in Swansea Bay. You will work at Morriston, Singleton and Neath/ port Talbot Hospitals, on a rotational basis.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our skilled and dedicated laboratory medicine team. Ideally, you will have a science degree, a science Higher National Diploma, or equivalent experience.
The post holder will supervise a team of biomedical support workers (BMSW) who prepare patient samples received in the laboratory medicine department for analysis. These duties will include entering patient and associated testing details into the Laboratory Medicine computer system. The post holder will also prepare rosters in conjunction with section managers and other supervisory duties under the direction of the receptions manager.
The post holder will maintain personal development and competency to meet the changing demands of the job and participate in appropriate training activities and assist support staff development and training
The Laboratory Medicine Department has its laboratories at Morriston, Singleton, Neath Port Talbot and Princess of Wales* Hospitals and provide a 24 hour service for blood tests on patients from hospitals, clinics and GP surgeries within the SBU Health Board population. This post will require rotation to all sites within the laboratory medicine department.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Level 4 Science or Management qualification (e.g. HNC/HND in a science area) or equivalent experience.
2. IT skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
3. Able to coordinate and allocate staff effectively and efficiently in order to provide the best service Health and Safety issues.
Desirable criteria
4. Suitable Qualifications in Training.
5. Suitable Qualifications in Health and Safety.
6. Background knowledge of laboratory medicine.
