The University of Southampton is committed to excellence in all we do, applying our insights and inventiveness to solve the most complex societal and environmental challenges. As a world‑leading, research‑intensive university, with a strong and high‑quality educational offering, we are renowned for our innovation and enterprise and are within the top 1% of universities worldwide.
We are seeking a proactive Buildings and Facilities Coordinator to join our Faculty of Medicine team based at Southampton General Hospital. In this key role, you will ensure our teaching spaces, laboratories, and offices remain safe, welcoming, and fully operational—supporting the day‑to‑day experience of our students, researchers, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
 * Act as the primary point of contact for maintenance requests, fault reporting, and waste management, using University of Southampton (UoS), University Hospital Southampton (UHS) systems.
 * Coordinate access and facilities support for postgraduate students, academic staff, researchers, and visitors.
 * Collaborate with Estates teams, external contractors, and the Faculty Infrastructure Manager on refurbishment projects and compliance initiatives.
 * Support health and safety activities, including inspections, fire safety checks, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
 * Maintain accurate records of equipment servicing (e.g., calibration, PAT testing) and manage content on the Faculty’s infrastructure SharePoint site.
 * Plan and prioritise your workload effectively to meet operational objectives.
You will have experience in a facilities or estates support role—ideally within a university, healthcare, or similarly complex environment. A sound understanding of health and safety regulations is essential, particularly in relation to manual handling and safe working practices. You will also be able to demonstrate proficiency in IT systems, including spreadsheets and reporting tools.
Have you got experience supporting facilities or estates, ideally in a university or healthcare environment? You’ve achieved a Level 3 qualification—like A‑Levels, NVQ, or similar vocational training. You’re confident using IT systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools. You also understand health and safety regulations, including manual handling and safe working practices.
As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work.
With a generous holiday allowance as well as additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and students and open to a flexible working approach.
