About the Role
The Elders Council of Newcastle has been awarded Newcastle Cultural Investment Funding, with up to £4,000 available for a local Creative Co-ordinator (on a freelance basis) to support a 12-month project celebrating our 25th anniversary. It is our aim that this project creates a lasting legacy that celebrates Newcastle’s older voices and connects generations through storytelling and film, changing the narrative around ageing.
This role will involve co-creating a legacy book that will share rich heritage, stories, and lived experience of older people in Newcastle while connecting generations, as a celebration of place.
The Creative Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Officer and Elders Council Members to edit and prepare the book for publishing and organise a book launch.
Alongside the book, a film is being produced by a local film company. The Creative Coordinator will assist with the film script to ensure alignment with the project’s vision.
Key Responsibilities & Skills
Lead planning and facilitation of a set number of creative writing sessions and workshops with older people, liaising with local schools, supporting community outreach and intergenerational activities
Support editorial work including copy-editing contributions
Assist with self-publishing on Amazon, including formatting and publication management
Collaborate with the film company by assisting with film script development
Organise and support a book launch event
Monitor and evaluate sessions by tracking attendance, gathering data to assess social impact
Manage the project workload professionally to deadlines and within the allocated budget and keep accurate records
Strong creative writing experience essential, with skills in editing and workshop facilitation
Experience working with older people and intergenerational groups is essential
Experience teaching spoken word and performance skills would be advantageous, (but not essential)
Self-motivated, reliable, adaptable, and able to work independently while representing the Elders Council of Newcastle and collaborating with the Executive Officer and Elders Council members

This is a freelance role with hours to be arranged (over a 12 month period) to match project scope
