Job Opportunity: Risk Engineer in Catastrophe Modelling

Our client, a leading organisation in the cyber reinsurance sector, is on the lookout for a talented Risk Engineer specialising in Catastrophe Modelling to join their dynamic modelling team in Bristol.

Role Overview:
As a Risk Engineer, you'll report directly to the Lead Catastrophe Modeller, playing a critical role in developing and operationalizing proprietary stochastic cyber risk models. This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance our analytical capabilities and contribute to the exciting field of cyber catastrophe modelling.
Key Responsibilities:
* Model Development: Contribute to model testing, diagnostics, and release workflows by creating best-practise ML and testing frameworks.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with diverse teams to integrate new data sources and methodologies into our proprietary cyber risk estimation system, Cybertooth.
* Research Contribution: Engage in ongoing research within cyber catastrophe modelling, providing robust frameworks to evaluate new hypotheses against established baselines.
* Stay Updated: Keep abreast of the latest developments in cyber risk measurement, data science, and high-performance computing to enhance our capabilities.
* Visualisation: Bring models to life with innovative visualisations that improve model explainability and effectively communicate value to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
* Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a related field such as risk/catastrophe modelling, actuarial science, quantitative finance, or data science.
* Statistical Modelling Expertise: Real-world commercial experience in statistical modelling and probability.
* Programming Skills: Proficiency in scientific Python (essential), Spark, CUDA, and SQL. Familiarity with Databricks is a plus!
* Problem Solver: Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Communication Skills: Ability to present complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
* Educational Background: Degree in a STEM field or equivalent industrial experience. Experience in cyber insurance or cyber security is beneficial but not essential.
