We are seeking an experienced, dynamic Ecologist to join our growing team. You will play a vital role in supporting infrastructure projects across the UK, ensuring compliance with ecological legislation and enhancing biodiversity outcomes.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in both fieldwork and reporting. You must be confident in leading surveys, liaising with clients, and managing internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* To attend site to carry out ecology/PEA surveys to specified standard PEA and ESR Reports in accordance with Network Rail standards
* To create site specific environmental Risk Assessments
* Provide ecology advice and support to project managers and works delivery teams
* Draft and check protected species management plans
* Write toolbox talks and lead environmental discussions on site
* Investigate environmental incidents
* Liaise with project managers and clients to plan and implement environmental protection measures
* Conduct habitat surveys and biodiversity scoring
* Develop plans to deliver net biodiversity gain on project sites
Essential Requirements
* Minimum 3 years' full-time experience in ecological consultancy.
* Positive attitude, adaptable, and well-organised with strong time management skills.
* BSc (or higher) in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven report writing experience.
* Full driving licence and access to a personal vehicle.
* Professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Proficient in Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, and protected species surveys.
* Additional protected species survey licences.
* Strong species identification skills and excellent working knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation in England.
