Overview

Dowty – Manufacturing Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, 2026 intake. 4 years including End Point Assessment. The program combines university study with paid work placements in manufacturing engineering for aircraft propellers. Participants will graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing from the University of the West of England (UWE).


Role Summary

The apprentice will join a cross-functional manufacturing engineering program, gaining experience across production, quality, design, materials & processes, tool design, and Non-Destructive Testing. The final rotation focuses on core manufacturing engineering tasks to translate engineering intent into manufacturable products while maintaining safety, quality, delivery and cost objectives.


Responsibilities

* Write and iteratively improve clear manufacturing work instructions aligned with technical specifications.
* Generate machine code for CNC machining centres and metrology tools (CMM/measurement arms/laser scanners).
* Present data-driven solutions to manufacturing engineering problems using Lean and problem-solving methodologies (Six Sigma, Red X, 8D, Lean).
* Create and develop production techniques from raw material to finished product with Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost (SQDC) at the center of decisions.
* Suggest and develop new technology initiatives for fixtures, tooling, and equipment to improve manufacturing processes.
* Contribute to year-on-year improvements in metrics such as Throughput, Yield, Cycle Time & Defects-Per-Unit.
* Create PFMEAs (Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis) for current and future production processes to support APQP.


Qualifications / Requirements

Please ensure you have achieved or are predicted these grades or above as these are the minimum requirements to join this apprenticeship. Failure to meet these grades could mean you are not eligible to join the programme.


Essential

* Minimum of 112 UCAS points via:
* 3 A-Levels at grade BBC or above (including Mathematics and another STEM subject e.g. Physics/Electronics/Computing or similar)
* BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering at grade DMM or above
* Equivalent qualification with appropriate Mathematics content
* Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent (Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths)
