Quantity Surveyor Northampton/Hertfordshire Groundworks
The Client
This family-run business has been in operation for almost 30 years, primarily in the residential groundworks sector. They have grown to approximately £400m and have satellite offices across the UK. They have a strong reputation with leading house builders and continue to grow year on year.
The Role
1. Conduct regular site visits and liaise with the production team.
2. Prepare and review tenders with estimators and assist in understanding client requirements to offer value engineering.
3. Provide early cost advice to clients on variations and ensure only authorized variations are undertaken.
4. Offer technical advice on drawings and ensure each project has the correct documentation.
5. Manage the end-to-end commercial aspects of assigned projects to maximize value, collaborating with Finance and Procurement departments.
6. Ensure all commercial responsibilities are undertaken accurately and promptly.
7. Analyze rates and prices, and agree on variations or compensation events as required.
8. Identify and analyze potential debt risks and negotiate financial reconciliation with third parties.
9. Forecast monthly and annual profit figures, maintaining accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
10. Understand safety principles on sites and projects.
11. Support the safety Director and team in applying safety policies and practices.
12. Address safety concerns immediately with the support of the safety team and Directors.
13. Build strong relationships with clients, including social networking.
14. Allocate work to subcontractors and assist with procurement when needed.
What you NEED
1. Minimum GCSE, desirable HNC Level 4 Qualification in Construction/Building or equivalent.
2. At least 1 year of experience as a trainee/assistant Quantity Surveyor.
3. Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel.
4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills.
6. Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
7. Excellent organizational skills.
8. Ability to identify and resolve problems promptly.
9. Skill in gathering and analyzing information.
10. Highly motivated and willing to work hard.
