What's involved with this role: Job Title: Homeless Prevention Officer Reference: 000A 5B4F/1 Salary: £18.43 PAYE per day Hours: 36 hours a week Role length: Until 13/02/2026 Job type: Hybrid Location: Ashton under Lyne, OL6 7RL What the client is looking for: Our client is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join their Housing and Homelessness service as Homeless Prevention Officers. This is a key frontline role, where you will work with households who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, providing advice, support, and practical solutions to help prevent and relieve homelessness. The role: You will play a vital part in delivering a proactive homelessness prevention service. This includes assessing housing needs, delivering tailored housing solutions, and ensuring the organisation’s statutory duties are met under the Housing Act 1996, the Homelessness Act 2002, the Localism Act 2011, and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. The role involves working with vulnerable households, partner agencies, and other housing providers to prevent homelessness wherever possible and provide support to those in need. What You’ll Do: Provide the first point of contact for those at risk of homelessness, offering advice, assistance, and practical support. Assess and investigate homelessness applications in line with statutory duties and case law. Develop and manage Personal Housing Plans to support households and prevent homelessness. Work closely with external partners, including registered providers, private landlords, and voluntary sector organisations, to secure appropriate housing solutions. Carry out housing needs assessments for vulnerable clients and ensure their support needs are addressed. Deliver services through face-to-face assessments, telephone interviews, home visits, and outreach where appropriate. Ensure compliance with housing legislation and internal policies while meeting performance targets. Provide accurate data and outcomes-based reporting for central Government and internal monitoring. Participate in duty rotas to provide frontline support across offices and community locations. Actively engage with community groups, charities, and partner organisations to reduce homelessness across the region. We are looking for someone with: A minimum Level 2 qualification (including GCSE/CSE English and Maths). Strong analytical skills with the ability to prioritise complex tasks. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interview sensitively and use information appropriately. Experience of working in homelessness or housing management, with knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. Previous experience in a customer-focused and face-to-face environment. Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills to identify solutions to complex housing issues. Experience of working with vulnerable or socially excluded groups. Multi-agency working experience, including attending court when required. A good understanding of Equality & Diversity and the ability to apply it in practice. Desirable: Experience of working within Local Government. Experience using housing or case management systems (e.g., Agresso). Previous experience delivering training or sharing expertise with colleagues or external agencies. Knowledge of health and safety in relation to housing and homelessness services.
