Foster + Partners is one of the world’s leading architecture and integrated design practices. From our London headquarters, we deliver pioneering projects that set global benchmarks in design, technology, and sustainability. With more than 50 years of innovation, we continue to redefine what’s possible in the built environment — and our in-house engineering teams are central to that vision. London
We’re now looking for a Senior Fire Engineer to join our expanding Fire Safety team. This is an opportunity to shape strategy and delivery on some of the world’s most ambitious architectural projects — working directly alongside architects, engineers, and specialists within one collaborative studio environment.
You’ll play a key role in providing expert fire engineering input across all stages of design, ensuring performance, compliance, and creativity work hand-in-hand. From concept through to construction, you’ll develop innovative solutions that enhance safety, functionality, and design integrity.
As a senior member of the team, you’ll also mentor others, contribute to technical standards, and help grow Foster + Partners’ in-house capability in this increasingly critical discipline.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead fire engineering input across multidisciplinary design teams on major global projects
* Provide technical advice and performance-based design solutions from concept through delivery
* Develop and review fire strategies, risk assessments, and fire safety reports
* Undertake and interpret advanced analysis (e.g. CFD, evacuation modelling, structural fire engineering)
* Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and consultants to integrate safety seamlessly within design intent
* Support internal R&D, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement of design tools and processes
* Mentor and develop junior fire engineers, contributing to the wider growth of the discipline within the practice
About You
* Degree qualified in Fire Engineering or a related discipline
* Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng)
* Strong understanding of UK and international fire safety codes, standards, and performance-based design
* Skilled in risk assessment, quantitative analysis, and fire dynamics
* Competence with CFD and modelling tools (e.g. FDS, Pathfinder, or equivalent)
* Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with architects, clients, and multidisciplinary teams
* A creative mindset with the ability to balance technical precision and design vision
Joining Foster + Partners means becoming part of an environment where innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence are embedded in every project. You’ll have the opportunity to influence globally recognised work, develop your expertise among world‑class peers, and contribute to shaping a safer, more sustainable built environment.
If you’re ready to elevate your career within one of the most respected names in design and engineering — we’d love to hear from you.
