Job Description:

Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally-minded institution with a relentless focus on delivering quality teaching and learning, and a campus-wide focus on providing a sector-leading student experience. A culturally rich university with a palpable commitment to the public good, it strives to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment where staff and students are able to thrive. The university is a vibrant, multicultural hub of learning, creativity and innovation that never surrenders to convention. Our success is built on a fantastic student experience coupled with award-winning teaching and world-class facilities that help students develop the skills and attitudes that employers demand.

Faculty/Directorate

The Faculty Operations Manager (FOM) is a key leadership role within the professional services team of an ambitious Faculty under the leadership of a new Executive Dean. The Faculty offers a varied portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and our education and research reach is regional, national and international.

The Faculty is based in the Hugh Aston Building which boasts a trading room, modern lecture and seminar rooms and a mock court room. All our academic and administrative staff are based in Hugh Aston too, along with colleagues from across the University.

The Role

The FOM reports directly to the Director of Faculty Operations and thus will have a varied, interesting and diverse portfolio and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. The role is broad and challenging. The role will provide active leadership to the Faculty’s Executive Services Cluster, making sure that administrative systems and processes are in place and delivering timely and effective operational and governance support to the Faculty Leadership Team. The role will also be responsible for our health and safety governance and processes across staffing, facilities, operations and risk assessments and you will be a key support to the Leadership Team on strategic and operational risks. It will play a key role in developing and operationalising the Faculty’s business continuity plans.

It will ensure that our facilities are of the highest standard and will deliver and manage projects for the Faculty which will bring you into daily contact with business partners across Estates, People Services and Digital and Technology. As part of this, you will oversee the delivery of capital projects with a range of business partners.

The role will provide ample opportunity to work across the Faculty and University on projects, working groups and committees. The post will also act as a deputy to the Director of Faculty Operations and provide cover as and when needed.

Ideal Candidate

You will already be an experienced and confident manager of staff and processes. You can demonstrate impact and performance both personally and through your team and will be ready for a new challenge. You will be comfortable with a broad management portfolio but also able to lead detailed operational processes, especially around facilities and health and safety.

You will be a strong planner with the ability and drive to craft detailed plans and successfully deliver tangible outputs which make a clear impact on the business. You will bring staff along with you on all change journeys and your strong and persuasive communication will underpin your leadership style.

The role is hybrid meaning that, subject to the business need, you can work c. 2 days per week from home and c. 3 days on campus.
