Barnsley Vision and Hearing Support Services are highly regarded and forward-thinking, with a shared commitment to working collaboratively with others to build capacity and bring about positive change for children and young people with hearing and vision needs. The services are embedded within the LA SEND Strategy and are key in driving forward strategic plans to promote positive outcomes for children and young people with hearing and vision loss. We are excited to be expanding our service to support Local Authority priorities.
Hearing Support Service and the Vision Support Service which includes Habilitation sit within the Education Inclusion Service. The Principal Educational Psychologists manage Hearing and Vision Support Services alongside the Social Communication and Interaction Service, the Portage Service, and the Educational, Child and Community Psychology Service. As a Specialist Support Worker you will work closely with the advisory teachers to meet the needs of children and young people aged 0-25. Specialist Support Workers in the Vision Support Service will also work closely with the Habilitation Officer.
You will be working within a robust needs-led service model that supports a graduated approach with a focus on building capacity. Your practice will be person-centred and you will work collaboratively with children and young people and their families. The role will involve providing advice and guidance and the planning and delivery of interventions to develop independence and achieve positive outcomes for children and young people. You will work closely with children and young people ensuring they can access learning, social activities, and daily living skills with confidence and independence. You will help adapt learning materials, assist with mobility and orientation, and implement strategies to build confidence and life skills. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to support children and young people to develop their independence in preparation for adulthood.
