Primary Function

Responsible for rendering professional nursing services, either directly or indirectly, for a defined group of patients according to the hospital’s philosophy of patient care.


Job Qualifications and Specifications

ICU Registered Nurses are expected to have:

* I.V. certification
* The ability to recognize all significant cardiac arrhythmias
* A clear understanding of symptoms and clinical findings for myocardial infarction and its complications
* An understanding of the needs of critically-ill medical and surgical patients
* A thorough knowledge of the psychological and medical needs of patients and the importance of maintaining a noise and anxiety-free environment
* Competence in operating all resuscitation equipment
* BLS certification
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) completion; new graduates will complete ACLS within one year of hire
* Knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring and basic intra-aortic balloon pumping
* Attendance and completion of yearly competency assessments
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
* RI state RN licensure
