University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity within the Emergency Care Therapy Team (ECTT). We are seeking a motivated, forward-thinking, and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our friendly, multi-professional team. The role involves managing a specialized clinical caseload, developing our established therapy service, and working across various departments including the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Units, and community outreach programs. The team focuses on early assessment, admission avoidance, and supporting frailty care pathways.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Undertake a specialist OT role, delivering assessments and interventions with a focus on early involvement, discharge planning, and admission avoidance, including promoting Virtual Wards.
2. Provide equipment and care recommendations, conduct cognitive assessments, and support staff and student training.
3. Work effectively with diverse patient groups, hospital teams, and community services, demonstrating strong clinical and communication skills.
4. Support a 7-day service, including flexible working, split shifts, and participation in weekend/bank holiday rota.
5. Support OT Team Leads in daily operations, supervise staff, and contribute to service development.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical:
* Conduct comprehensive assessments, including mobility, transfers, personal care, and cognitive evaluations.
* Develop and implement care plans, recommend equipment, and facilitate discharge planning.
* Provide expert advice on hand therapy and environmental assessments.
* Maintain accurate records and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Supervise and support junior staff and students.
Administrative:
* Maintain departmental records and utilize IT systems for patient data management.
Professional:
* Ensure ongoing professional development and supervision of staff.
* Participate in service development, training, and clinical governance activities.
* Maintain HCPC registration and adhere to professional standards.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
* Extensive experience as an Occupational Therapist in physical health fields.
* Proven skills in assessments, interventions, and caseload management.
* Experience liaising with community services and supervising staff and students.
* Understanding of NHS issues and emergency care context.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC registration.
* Computer literacy and understanding of confidentiality.
