Live-in Couple Job in Berkshire
We are looking for a reliable and dedicated live-in couple to assist with the gardening and housekeeping of a weekend residence near Newbury. The property is visited by the Principals and their three grown children sporadically and usually for short durations. There are two spaniels: one who lives there full-time and another who visits with the Principals.
The property is a small estate with a 6-bedroom house, and the garden is approximately 20 acres with walled gardens. There is a part-time gardener already employed. The ideal couple would be flexible, reliable, kind, and dog lovers. A competent cook who enjoys making use of the homegrown produce in the vegetable garden would be desirable.
Duties to include, but not limited to:
Housekeeper (around 20 hours a week):
1. Cleaning
2. Laundry and ironing
3. Preparing food for the Principal to cook
4. Shopping and running errands to prepare for the Principals’ arrival
5. Dog care – taking the dogs on long walks
6. If this individual also enjoys gardening and is happy to work in the garden, more hours would be offered
7. Flexibility around hours are required and more hours may be offered in busy times. This role will need to be the priority over other activities and work outside of this property.
Groundsman / Gardener :
8. Gardening (lawn mowing, hedge cutting, care of roses, weeding, pruning, etc.)
9. Exterior maintenance (such as outdoor painting and clearing gutters)
10. Interior maintenance (painting, minor repairs, and basic DIY)
11. Maintaining and operating garden machinery
12. House and dog sitting when the Principals are away
13. Driving duties, including looking after vintage cars that need to be driven weekly, cleaning them, and taking them for MOTs
14. Security
Start: As soon as possible is preferred; however, they will wait for the right couple.
Accommodation: A one-bedroom flat attached to the main house with a separate entrance. A small pet will be accommodated. Utility bills will be paid by the client.
Driving: At least one person must be a confident driver; however, it is preferable that both drive.
Days: The standard working days are Monday to Friday. However, the position requires flexibility to work weekends when the household needs arise. Specifically, you will be required to work up to five full weekends per year. Outside of those specific dates, there will be other occasions where weekend assistance is necessary.
Hours: Housekeeper (20 hours, or more if happy to work in the garden); Gardener (40 hours a week).
Salary: £55,000 to £60,000 gross per annum, depending on experience and total hours worked.
