Job Introduction
Starting salary for this role is £39,152 (pro rata for part-time colleagues) 22.2 hours per week (3 days) fixed term to 31 March 2027.

Role Purpose
We are seeking to appoint a School Aged Childcare Co‑ordinator to support BCP Council’s statutory duties to ensure sufficient, high‑quality school‑aged childcare, including wraparound provision, holiday clubs and the rollout of free breakfast clubs. The postholder will lead strategic sufficiency planning, provider engagement, data reporting and the co‑ordination of cross‑service delivery to ensure families can access flexible, sustainable and inclusive childcare options.
Main Responsibilities
* Lead strategic sufficiency planning across school‑aged childcare, including wraparound, holiday clubs and free breakfast clubs.
* Act as the key link to the Department for Education, ensuring full compliance with grant conditions, reporting requirements and monitoring.
* Co‑ordinate cross‑service planning with Early Years, SEND, Commissioning, Family Services, Admissions and Pupil Place Planning to ensure alignment of local strategies.
* Support schools and childcare providers to use sufficiency data, understand eligibility and develop sustainable, high‑quality expansion proposals.
* Develop and maintain monitoring systems covering supply, demand, occupancy, staffing, SEND inclusion and parental access.
* Prepare strategic reports, market position statements, assurance returns and Cabinet/Committee briefings.
* Provide business planning, sustainability advice and guidance on Ofsted requirements, delivery models and inclusive practice.
* Lead communications with schools, providers, parents and stakeholders to ensure consistent and accessible information about the childcare offer.
* Map and analyse current provision and future demand, incorporating consultation with parents, children and providers.
* Safeguard the welfare of children and elevate any concerns appropriately.
The Ideal Candidate
* Relevant professional degree or equivalent experience with evidence of continuous professional development.
* Good understanding of local authority childcare sufficiency duties and experience working with school‑aged childcare providers or schools.
* Experience in project management, multi‑agency working and producing strategic sufficiency reports.
* Knowledge of Ofsted requirements, safeguarding, SEND, equality legislation and inclusion practice.
* Excellent communication, influencing and partnership‑building skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, manage a varied workload and meet challenging deadlines.
* Good knowledge of ICT including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and other relevant programmes.
* Must be able to travel, using public or other forms of transport where viable, or by holding a valid UK driving licence with access to own or pool car.
