The Senior Director, Modality Strategy (internal title), reports to the VP of Global Marketing. This senior role leads the profitability and growth strategy for one or more modalities, such as Mammalian Cell Culture, Microbial, Advanced Therapies, or Drug Product/Finished Goods, and is responsible for realizing our Partners for Life Strategy and our goal to quadruple revenue by 2030.
This position leads a cross-functional team representing functions including Finance, Marketing, Communications, Commercial, Operations, Process Development, Engineering, Quality, KojoX Strategy, Business Intelligence & Insights, Business Development, and Science & Innovation. The role involves market analysis, strategic planning, and ensuring alignment across functions to differentiate our offerings and achieve strategic goals.
The Senior Director will oversee the development and execution of modality strategies, ensure financial targets are met, and align resources effectively. This role requires influencing without direct authority, providing strategic insights, and fostering organizational alignment to deliver value to our customers and stakeholders.
Role & Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain an updated modality strategy based on market insights, including positioning and profitability growth plans.
2. Provide market, competitor, and customer insights to identify opportunities, dependencies, and competitive advantages.
3. Ensure operational, marketing, and commercial efforts are aligned and customer-centric, meeting sales and profitability goals.
4. Present strategies and roadmaps to leadership and secure necessary approvals and investments.
5. Collaborate across functions to implement strategies, develop launch playbooks, and socialize tactics.
6. Align modality strategies with organizational and corporate strategies such as kojoX and Partners for Life.
7. Continuously revise and improve roadmaps based on market and internal insights, integrating innovation and business development efforts.
8. Define and deliver a compelling value proposition in collaboration with marketing and commercial teams, supported by evidence and case studies.
9. Work with Business Development on expansion initiatives and perform gap analyses to enhance competitiveness.
10. Support marketing and commercial strategies to ensure a robust sales pipeline and capacity utilization.
11. Participate in strategic dialogues with partners and provide technical support to sales and customers.
12. Manage financial performance metrics such as revenue, EBITDA, and operational KPIs.
13. Report on operational performance and customer satisfaction metrics.
14. Lead new service line development through cross-functional team leadership.
15. Perform other activities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Life Sciences, or related field; Master’s preferred.
* 15+ years of experience in business strategy within the CDMO or pharmaceutical industry.
* Proven leadership in working with senior teams and managing cross-functional teams.
* Experience in product lifecycle management and service development.
* Advanced project management skills, familiarity with Agile or Lean methodologies advantageous.
* Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to synthesize market and internal data into strategic insights.
* Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical value chain and product service lines.
* Strong business acumen and result-oriented mindset.
