A London local authority in North London is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join its Traffic & Engineering Service on a contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to work on high‑profile transport and public realm programmes within a busy borough environment.
The Role
You will provide a specialist professional traffic engineering service, taking schemes from feasibility through to detailed design and implementation. You will also supervise junior staff and provide professional and technical support across a varied programme of works.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver traffic engineering schemes from feasibility and consultation through to implementation
Produce detailed designs using AutoCAD
Act as technical lead on allocated projects
Supervise and mentor junior engineering staff
Provide professional and technical advice across the service
Liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors, and external consultants

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs)
Bus priority and cycling improvement schemes
Road safety initiatives
Parking and kerbside management improvements
About You
Demonstrable experience working within a local authority
Strong background in traffic engineering and scheme delivery
Proficient in AutoCAD
Experience supervising or supporting junior staff
Comfortable managing multiple schemes in a fast‑paced public sector setting
