Overview
Intelligence Technical Officer within the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit. You will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems to understand Threat, Risk and Harm and improve approaches to tackling environmental offending and protecting officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promoting the use and benefits of Memex, improving the quality of intelligence submissions, and supporting incident response when required.
You will be comfortable with a flexible, dispersed working pattern with travel to Birmingham and other staff bases as needed.
Responsibilities
* Provide face‑to‑face training to area staff on the MEMEX intelligence system.
* Support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
* Supervise intelligence logs to maintain high quality in submissions.
* Create entities from Memex submissions.
* Provide regular performance reports and feedback to improve performance.
* Ensure high standards of quality for intelligence submissions.
* Assist with incident response and business continuity during incidents (may attract additional payment and full training).
* Perform other duties commensurate with the role.
* Promote an intelligence‑led approach across teams and embed it within workflows.
Experience and Skills Required
* Good understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
* Ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed across teams.
* Excellent influencing skills to promote MEMEX use and mandatory safety checks.
* Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships.
* Ability to create and deliver engaging, inclusive training.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback on intelligence submission performance.
* Strong self‑management and organisational skills.
* Strong teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals.
Additional Information
* Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices is required on occasions.
* Interviews will be via Microsoft Teams in October.
