Senior Social Worker – Early Help & Wellbeing
Essex County Council – West Essex Early Help & Wellbeing team. The role supports the practice and leadership of the Early Help & Wellbeing team, ensuring a high standard of care for individuals with mental wellbeing and neurodivergent conditions.
About the Team
Mental health social care is transitioning to an operational delivery model that prioritises early intervention and prevention for Essex residents who are not currently receiving services or are falling through the gaps. The team provides information, advice and guidance, ensures Care Act compliance, and conducts assessments and reviews to improve wellbeing outcomes.
About the Role
As a Senior Social Worker you will:
* Provide expert guidance and mentorship to both newly qualified and experienced colleagues, fostering a supportive environment and modelling best practice.
* Manage a diverse, complex caseload, undertaking comprehensive assessments and creating person‑centred care plans.
* Ensure compliance with the Care Act, relevant legislation and organisational standards, supporting clients to achieve full, fulfilling lives.
* Collaborate across the council and with external partners to develop high‑quality, independent solutions.
* Chair multi‑agency meetings, representing the adult social care perspective and leading proactive action.
About You
To qualify you need:
* Qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration and at least two years post‑qualification experience.
* In‑depth knowledge of complex cases and the Care Act; AMHP, BIA or PE qualified or intention to complete these qualifications.
* Two years of experience in mental health services, ideally with knowledge of neurodivergence.
* Proactive, passionate, proven record of complex case management and staff support.
* Evidence of continued professional development in line with current standards.
* Strong decision‑making skills, risk awareness, and financial understanding of commissioned care packages.
Travel within Essex is required. A driving licence, car or suitable alternative mobility arrangements are essential.
