Overview:I am representing a long-standing and well-respected groundworks and civil engineering contractor that operates across Central England. With a strong pipeline of work and a solid client base, my client is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of multiple residential and commercial groundwork packages.

The Role:Working closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, and Subcontractors, the successful candidate will play a key role in the financial and contractual management of projects from pre-construction through to final account. Whether you’re stepping into your first QS role or looking to take the next step in your career, this position offers genuine development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the preparation of monthly applications for payment, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
* Monitor project costs and track expenditure against budgets.
* Support the preparation of early quotations and cost estimates for variations.
* Help manage client accounts and resolve payment discrepancies efficiently.
* Assist with the compilation of monthly financial forecasts in collaboration with site teams.
* Procure subcontractor and supplier packages (under guidance for AQS or independently for QS level).
* Attend regular site visits to gather valuation data, assess progress, and ensure contractual compliance.
* Maintain and update project documentation, including contracts, invoices, and correspondence.
* Contribute to cost-saving and value engineering initiatives without compromising safety or quality.
* (For QS level) Mentor junior staff and support their commercial development.
Ideal Candidate:
* Experience within groundworks or civil engineering is highly desirable.
* Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role (Assistant QS or QS level).
* Solid understanding of commercial processes, contracts, and construction methodology.
* Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
* Full UK driving license (essential).
