Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of the educational service for staff within Maternity and Neonatal Services, covering junior and senior midwifery and nursing staff, medical staff and allied health professionals.
The post holder will be responsible for appropriate delivery of training and education, including implementation of national standards for midwives to ensure evidence‑based practice.
The post holder will identify training and education needs through analysis of clinical and national recommendations and advise on required resources.
You will be expected to have strong communication skills, demonstrating high levels of autonomy, clinical and leadership abilities.
Main duties of the job
* Work in close collaboration with the Matron, Consultants, and Coordinators to identify training and education requirements for all levels of staff.
* Carry out training needs analysis and develop appropriate training plans and recommendations to fill skill and knowledge gaps.
* Maintain personal clinical competence and credibility, delivering maternity care.
* Ensure that midwifery care meets all requirements of the current Core Competency Framework, CQC and peer review training, including mandatory training and medical device training.
* Maintain skills and competencies for Registered Midwives in line with local and national requirements.
* Plan and deliver multi‑disciplinary and multi‑professional training, such as PROMPT, Saving Babies' Lives and mandatory study, incorporating local and national themes to illustrate areas for improvement.
* Promote and provide opportunities and resources for staff training, academic courses and development.
* Act as a Practice Assessor (in line with NMC Guidance for Students) and as an appraiser/line manager to clinicians.
* Provide individualised situated support in a clinical environment for students, apprentices, return‑to‑practice learners, and early‑career midwives.

Eligibility and requirements
Essential
* Registered Midwife with a minimum 5 years of clinical experience
* Practice education experience – minimum 1 year
* Experience of facilitation/education and presenting to audiences
* Clinical midwifery experience in all areas of practice, including caring for women at high risk and managing obstetric emergencies
* Demonstrates strong communication, leadership, negotiation and organisational skills
* Working knowledge of issues currently impacting Maternity Services, including Clinical Governance and Information Governance
* Evidence of effective and collaborative working within teams
* Evidence of continuing personal and professional development in clinical practice, education, and health service management
Desirable
* Postgraduate qualification in education‑related subject or willingness to undertake further education
* Leadership and Management training
