Public Cloud Assistant Infrastructure Engineer
Salary: £48,987–£54,430
Location: Halifax or Leeds
Workstyle: Hybrid (at least two days a week/on average 40% on site)
Role Overview
We are recruiting a Public Cloud Assistant Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, build and operation of cloud‑based infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure.
You will work within agile engineering teams, contributing to secure, scalable platforms that support services used across Lloyds Banking Group.
This role is suited to early‑career cloud, DevOps or infrastructure engineers who want to deepen their experience with Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD in a large‑scale enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support the design, deployment and maintenance of cloud infrastructure on GCP and Azure
2. Assist in operating Kubernetes‑based platforms
3. Build, maintain and support CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure deployment
4. Contribute to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform
5. Support implementation of security controls, access management and policy standards
6. Monitor platform health and assist with incident resolution and troubleshooting
7. Take part in agile ceremonies, continuous improvement activities and platform enhancements
8. Participate in an on‑call support rota with appropriate training and support
Required Skills and Experience
9. 1–4 years’ experience in a DevOps, SRE, cloud or infrastructure engineering role
10. Hands‑on experience or strong working knowledge of Kubernetes and container technologies
11. Experience using CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions or similar)
12. Ability to write or maintain scripts using Python, Bash or Go
13. Experience or exposure to Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform
14. Understanding of cloud computing concepts and services on GCP and/or Azure
15. Basic understanding of Linux systems, networking and security principles
16. Strong collaboration skills and a willingness to learn new tools and technologies
Desirable (Not Essential) Skills
17. Experience with Istio service mesh, including ingress/egress, mTLS and telemetry
18. Familiarity with GitOps approaches (e.g. Anthos Config Management, Backstage workflows)
19. Experience with Harness or similar enterprise CI/CD tools
20. Exposure to OPA Gatekeeper or policy‑as‑code tooling
21. Awareness of container security tools such as Aqua Security
22. Knowledge of shared platform services (e.g. CoreDNS, cert‑manager, Dynatrace, Infoblox, Cloudability)
23. Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus or Dynatrace
24. Understanding of agile and DevOps ways of working
