About the Technology Enterprise Recovery & Resilience Team
This role is a critical part of the team that ensures effective implementation and ongoing oversight of our Critical & Important Business Services, supporting continuous improvement initiatives aligned with our strategic objectives and regulatory expectations. The role works closely with business and technology partners across the firm globally.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Technology Resilience and Recovery Engineer with a focus on technology platforms (Compute Infrastructure / IaaS Cloud / Storage) to strengthen our platforms’ resilience to disruption. The role blends engineering, architecture, and operational excellence, embedding resilience across our technology landscape and driving continuous improvement in readiness for severe and plausible disruptions.
Key responsibilities include assessing, designing, and continuously improving resilience capabilities across infrastructure, platforms, and services using data, evidence, and testing to identify vulnerabilities and drive improvement.
Core Areas of Focus
* Act as a consultative SME to embed resilient thinking across technology:
o Current and emerging regulation
o Response to events such as severe ransomware, core technology failures, third‑party outages
o Market events and response approaches
o Design and architect resilience solutions aligned with organisational appetite
* Understand severe but plausible threats and provide technology designs and approaches to mitigate, collaborating with SME teams to implement solutions.
* Work with testing teams to drive resilience testing and controls.
* Using in‑depth technology skills, embed resilience into our technology stack.
* Engage with technology practitioners to build, engineer, and implement designs ensuring workloads are resilient, testing emerging solutions, and consulting with enterprise architects.
* Collaborate with key stakeholders across technology and business to maintain continuity without breaching impact tolerances or causing significant customer harm.
* Drive automation of testing and data collection for continuous improvement.
* Horizon scan technology and threat space to prioritize efforts.
* Maintain Power BI metrics and dashboards for resilience initiative insights.
* Ensure regulatory compliance by interpreting operational resilience regulations.
* Implement and improve operational resilience procedures, data, and tooling across critical or important business services, aligning with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Experience and Qualifications Required
* Experience in technology roles with deep knowledge of infrastructure, application deployment, cloud (IaaS & SaaS) and monitoring/observability.
* Excellent understanding of resilience practices and engineering across:
o On‑Premise
o IaaS Cloud (AWS / Azure)
o SaaS Cloud
o VMware
o Storage Technologies
* Deep understanding of connectivity, networks and zero‑trust approaches.
* Experience driving resilience in cloud‑native application development.
* Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and best practices.
* Strong engineering awareness and good practices.
* Experience managing suppliers/third parties for resilient outcomes.
* Advanced knowledge of operational resilience regulatory requirements and their implications.
* Understanding of critical & important business services and technology mapping.
* Data manipulation skills to drive decision‑making.
* Knowledge of FCA, PRA, DORA and related regulations in resilience context.
* Understanding of cyber threat landscape and severe scenarios.
* Ability to produce whitepapers, discussion papers, and high‑level presentations.
* Strong detail orientation, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills at all organisational levels.
* Presentation skills for detail and high‑level overviews.
* Collaborative mindset and ability to challenge narrow thinking constructively.
* Demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and good judgement.
