Director of Communication and Strategic Marketing
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of School and serving as a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Communications & Strategic Marketing provides strategic leadership for all aspects of school communications, brand, and marketing. This is a senior, high‑impact role for a communications leader who can shape institutional narrative, build trust across stakeholders, and guide the school’s voice with clarity and confidence during moments of celebration, transitions, and change. The Director balances strategic oversight with collaborative execution, working closely with leadership, faculty, students, and external partners.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive, long‑term communications and marketing strategy aligned with the school’s strategic priorities and value proposition
* Steward and evolve the Saltus brand, ensuring clarity, consistency, and authenticity across all platforms
* Position the school effectively within Bermuda and the international independent‑school landscape
* Provide strategic communications counsel to the Head of School, Leadership Team, and Board of Trustees
* Oversee all internal and external communications to ensure they are clear, timely, mission‑aligned, and trust‑building
* Support change initiatives and institutional priorities through thoughtful, proactive communications
* Oversee digital platforms including the Saltus website and social media
* Manage the development of key publications including our annual magazine
* Lead institutional storytelling through written content, design, photography, and video, highlighting student experience, learning, and community life
* Serve as the primary media contact and manage media relations in coordination with senior leadership
* Lead communications planning for emergencies, incidents, and crises, working closely with the Head of School and Leadership Team
* Act as Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with Bermuda’s Personal Information and Privacy Act (PIPA)
* Support governance communications and policy alignment as required
* Guide digital marketing strategy and manage external agencies as appropriate
* Use data and analytics to inform decision‑making, assess impact, and refine communications strategies
* Explore emerging tools and practices, including AI‑enabled communications, with a focus on ethics, effectiveness, and safeguarding
* Provide leadership and direction within the Communications & Marketing Department and supervise the Communications Manager
* Mentor and support staff, fostering a collaborative, professional, and growthoriented team culture
* Work cross‑functionally with admissions, advancement, academics, and operations
* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Experience & Professional Attributes
* Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field
* Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in communications and marketing, preferably in a complex, community‑focused organization
* Demonstrated success leading strategic communications in complex organizational environments
* Proven experience advising senior leaders and working with boards or governance bodies
* Experience managing staff and collaborating across diverse stakeholder groups
* Strong digital fluency, including websites, social media, analytics, and emerging communications technologies
* Exceptional written, verbal, and public‑facing communication skills
* Experience in an educational or mission‑driven environment is an asset
* Ability to handle confidential information with tact and diplomacy
* Highly organized with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
* Highly autonomous self‑starter recognized for initiating, leading, and delivering strategic initiatives
* Full time, on site position in Bermuda
* Evening and weekend work may be required
* Occasional local or international travel may be required
