Job Description

Responsibilities:

3. Deliver end-to-end payroll independently, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
4. Maintain all payroll inputs including starters, leavers, variable pay, overtime, benefits, and statutory payments.
5. Manage the relationship with external payroll providers, reviewing outputs and resolving discrepancies.
6. Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, SPP, and other statutory requirements.
7. Complete reconciliations, payroll reporting, and journals for Finance.
8. Act as the sole point of contact for employee and manager payroll queries.
9. Oversee and manage year-end processes such as P60s, P11Ds, and statutory submissions.
10. Maintain accurate documentation, controls, and audit trails.
11. Identify and implement process improvements across payroll operations.
12. Provide payroll support to HR, Finance, and other internal stakeholders where required.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Payroll Specialist should have:

13. Proven experience operating in a standalone payroll role.
14. Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
15. Confident in managing external payroll providers.
16. Experience using major payroll systems such as ADP, iTrent, SAP, Sage, or Oracle.
17. High accuracy, excellent attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
18. Strong Excel skills including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and reconciliations.
19. Clear and confident communication skills.
20. Experience within Business Services or professional services is desirable but not essential.
21. Must be immediately available or on a maximum notice period of one week.
