Offer description

To have overall responsibility of a room. To lead the room staff team as well as being part of that team. To encourage good working relationships, give advice, support and resolve difficulties within the room. Providing a harmonious working environment where staff feel supported to express their own ideas. To encourage staff to attend further training and put that training into operation.


Main duties of the job

In the absence of the Manager and the Deputy Manager to be in charge of the nursery. Including opening and locking up and being responsible for arranging staff cover, checking fridge temperatures, ordering lunches, completing the register, collection of fees, restocking paperwork, monitoring staff sickness etc.

To promote good childcare practice, advising and training staff, monitoring their performance. To plan staff training with the Deputy Manager and carry out their rooms Personal Development Plans.

Job responsibilities

Main responsibilities;Work with and support children to provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care.Work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play,learn and develop.Work as part of a team to give support to other team members throughout the setting.Build and maintain strong partnerships with parents.Duties and responsibilities: Be patient, fun, understanding, kind, sensitive, consistent and loving to children in our care.Check and be aware of individual childrens allergies in the room in which you are working, ensuring they are displayed correctly.Ensure all children receive a warm welcome and time is taken to take any messages from parents.Provide verbal feedback to parents at the end of the day, showing a special interest in each individual child.Wash and change children when required, not necessarily at set times.Provide comfort and reassurance to an upset or poorly childKey worker duties;Know and understand the EYFS, Characteristics of Effective Learning, British Values, Ofsted guidance and other regulations relating to your post.Be a keyworker to a group of children.Be responsible for tracking the learning and development for this group of children.Record all observations on Tapestry.Highlight any gaps in attainment and where children need additional support.Create a close bond with each child and their family.Be a point of contact should parents need to raise concerns or seek advice.Feedback to parents about their childs progress at an annual parents evening.Work with parents of SEN children to give full integration into the setting.Be responsible for the intimate care for your key children.Be a key worker buddy to a colleague and cover their key worker duties in their absence. Ensure there is sufficient planning each week, and check your teams planning.Ensure planning offers varied activities to meet the needs and age of each child as an individual. Plan activities which extend childrens learning and challenge what they already know.Implement activities which are a mix of child and adult led activity.Be involved in and implement the planning required to offer each unique child a structured and flexible routine so that all children can develop at their own pace.Complete at least one observation per key child per week to a high standard. Ensure childrens learning journeys are up to date and of a high standard check weekly.Ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meets the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds at all stages of development. Understand and model positive behaviour reinforcement in line with the company policy, in order todevelop childrens behaviour. Safeguarding - Raise concerns regarding a childs health or welfare immediately with the Manager, Deputy or Designated Safeguarding Officer ensuring the correct paperwork is completed.Raise any concerns regarding a childs development or emotional needs with the Manager or Deputy.Report any concerns regarding staff immediately following the procedure in the whistleblowing policy and completing the correct paperwork.Actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and adults in the workplace.Work within the parameters set out in the safeguarding policy. Ensure each child is collected by someone known to setting, following the collection procedure.Ensure all children are recorded on the register as soon as they enter the setting and signed out upondeparture.Health and well being- Report all accidents and incidents on to the manager and parents. All medicines must be administered by the Manager or Deputy and witnessed by a second member of staff.Administer first aid as required. Ensure that meal times are a time of pleasant and social sharing.Prepare bottles and meals as requiredTraining and development.Undertake any additional training necessary to fulfil your role.Ensure your own training file is kept up to date and inform manager of any specific training you feel you would benefit from in your 1:1 or Appraisal.General- Use Tapestry to register children, activities, nappies, meals and sleeps for the whole room and not only key children.Communicate effectively and be available to parents and carers.Maintain confidentiality at all times. Ensure your work is GDPR compliant at all times.Ensure activities are carried out in a safe and responsible manner according to Statutory responsibilities. Ensure emergency procedures are followed at all times .Staff team - Ensure good working relationships and show respect to your colleagues and supervisors.Support all other staff and engage in promoting a happy and enjoyable working environment.Support new members of staff providing a mentor role as appropriate.Be involved in staff meetings and room meetings. Be flexible within the working practices of the setting to meet the needs of the children.Listen and respond appropriately to instructions from supervisors.The setting- Follow the dress code to ensure the safety of both children and staff.Read, understand and comply with all company policies and procedures. Adhere to the health and safety requirements including the risk assessments which should be completed daily.Set targets as a room and a setting to drive forward improvements.Involve yourself with the growth and development of the setting, meeting Ofsted requirements.Ensure any delegated responsibilities are fulfilled efficiently and seek advice or assistance if necessary.Housekeeping -Ensure general cleanliness and tidiness of the whole setting, not just specifically your own area on a daily basis.Maintain the setting to a high standard including regular deep cleaningSterilise toys and equipment frequently.
