Responsibilities

• Own our Van/LCV footprint and set the risk appetite.
• Demonstrate loss ratio control by implementing and monitoring underwriting controls, including new vehicle assessment, acceptance, and innovative vehicle underwriting approaches.
• Measure performance that contributes to overall agreed loss ratio targets.
• Implement and influence underwriting philosophy and strategy through key relationships, building a reputation as an underwriting expert and building confidence across the business.
• Compile underwriting and price change recommendations supported by sound analysis.
• Partner with the in‑house underwriter and advantage on the performance of the van account, highlighting risk areas or commercial opportunities.
• Act as the strategist in van/LCV and emerging trends, developing and delivering new insight, including integration of new data, analytical techniques and new ways of underwriting and pricing in the van market.
• Keep up to date with market and product developments through research.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of the motor insurance market, particularly LCV/van.
• Experience in a pricing or commercially focused analytical role.
• SQL and experience working with large or complex datasets.
• R/Python/Matlab or coding statistical methods in other languages.
• Mentoring, training or project‑based management of junior colleagues.
• Fast learner with a customer focus to spot profit opportunities and do the right thing.
