The Service
We are commissioned by NHS England to provide NHS Urgent Dental Care Services to patients across Lancashire from four locations. We currently have services operating in Blackpool and Morecambe and we have recently been successful in expanding this service into Blackburn and Burnley. The Services operate out of hours, evenings, weekends & bank holidays – 365 days per year.
We see patients who are in need of urgent and emergency dental care, from toothache to serious Injuries.
We are looking for a fun, caring and compassionate and professional individual to join our team. This would suit a dental nurse who is confident and able to deal with unplanned treatments and expect the unexpected
You will work as part of a team and for the team to work at its best everyone must play a part, utilising everyone's skill sets, and supporting each other is essential to this service.
About The Role
This role requires a confident Dental Nurse who is able to manage a clinic when timekeeping can be difficult due to anxious patients and unexpected emergencies. The service aims to provide patients with treatment to relieve them of pain, swellings, and the management of Injuries/Traumas where teeth may need to be re-implanted. A caring and compassionate personality is something that is extremely important to us. We ask ourselves how we would want our own family members to be treated.
* To perform high-quality dental nursing in a safe and effective manner alongside the dentist, within the scope of practice of a dental nurse.
* Confident and competent with working in a busy, and sometimes unpredictable environment. Good organisational skills here will place you in good stead.
* Being able to think on your feet but remaining polite and professional is essential, there are sometimes difficult situations that may arise where you may need to take the lead.
* Confident in working with a variety of different staff, it won't always be the same team members you are rostered with.
* Ability to calm and reassure nervous and anxious patients – a lot of our service users haven't seen a dentist in a long time and usually come to us as a last resort.
* It's essential you are able to work within a team and be a trustworthy member.
* High standard of infection control and be up to date with HTM01-05.
* To establish and maintain productive working relationships with all members of the dental team, supporting each other.
* Adaptability and flexibility will be essential attributes.
* Good time management skills.
* Ability to use your own initiative.
Employment Status & Hours
You are employed under a "worker status" a zero hours/bank contract. Staff work irregular sessions at the request of the service and therefore no guarantee of regular or continuous work is made, you are not obliged to accept casual sessions offered, but once agreed, attendance is expected. Rotas are completed on a monthly basis, and shifts are allocated as fairly as possible between dental nurses. We would expect an average of at least 3 to 4 shifts per month. You must hold your own individual indemnity insurance.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exemption Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. This will require three forms of valid ID to be produced and verified. The onboarding process is also subject to an Occupational Health check, suitable professional references and eligibility to work in the UK (with the requirement to provide relevant documentation as evidence).
