Staff Software Engineer – Drive Scalable Systems at Real-World Impact

We're partnering with a fast-growing, technology-driven business tackling complex, real-world challenges through modern engineering.
They're now looking for a Staff Engineer to take a leading role in shaping technical direction, driving architectural decisions, and delivering high-impact, cross-service solutions across a distributed platform.
What you'll be doing:
* Setting technical direction and leading the design of complex, scalable systems across multiple services
* Owning architecture decisions and balancing trade-offs across performance, reliability, and cost
* Driving best practices across testing, security, observability, and overall engineering quality
* Leading delivery across teams, navigating ambiguity, and ensuring consistent, high-quality outcomes
* Taking ownership of services in production, improving performance, resilience, and scalability
* Mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering standards across the organisation
* Partnering closely with Product, Data, and Design to shape roadmap and technical strategy
What they're looking for:
* Strong background in designing scalable, distributed systems with clear ownership and boundaries
* Proven experience operating at a Staff level, influencing architecture and technical direction across teams
* Deep expertise in reliability, observability, and production systems at scale
* Security-first mindset with experience identifying and mitigating risks
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
* Python experience preferred (open to similar languages)
* Hands-on experience with AWS (GCP/Azure also considered)
* BSc in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)

Salary: Up to £130,000
