Job Description
We are looking for a Category Controller to lead the Trading team. The role involves managing the customer offer across all catering customer types to achieve sales, margin, cash profit, stock holding, and availability targets.
About the role:
Establish Bestway as a Centre of Excellence for Catering, measured by growth in sales and margin, and delivering measurable benefits to customers and achieving Bestway KPI targets.
Work with the Group Trading Director and colleagues to develop and implement the commercial strategy for Catering through effective product portfolio management and pricing architecture to meet sales and margin targets.
Main responsibilities include:
* Planning, executing, and evaluating Symbol & Retail Club initiatives/projects, focusing initially on rolling out the Managing Range and delivering market-leading promotions.
* Managing end-to-end margin, allocations, and pre-sells according to timelines and targets.
* Defining and managing the Bargain Booze and Best One range.
* Targeting key suppliers to maximize additional income supporting the Core Extra rewards scheme.
* Measuring and recording supplier investments related to initiatives.
* Coordinating with Marketing on project specifications and deadlines.
* Developing and implementing allocation and pre-sell processes.
* Acting as the main point of contact internally within Trading and externally with suppliers for Symbol retail projects.
* Benchmarking promotions against competitors and reviewing promotional effectiveness.
* Coordinating with the Promotions Manager on selection and promotion processes for Symbol and Retail Club.
* Reviewing RSPs to ensure competitiveness and alignment with the market.
Externally:
* Engaging with key suppliers, customers, and PR/press activities on an approved basis.
About You:
* Experience in FMCG Wholesale or Retail (Category Management).
* Strategic thinker with the ability to influence change and create a long-term vision.
* Skilled in developing and implementing growth strategies and building cross-functional relationships.
* Strong commercial acumen and understanding of business drivers.
* Effective communicator, both written and verbal.
* Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
* Proactive in driving change and continuous improvement.
* Professional, with integrity and confidentiality.
* Ability to coordinate activities across a complex organization and influence diverse stakeholders.
* Driven to elevate the business for competitive advantage.
