Job Description:
This role reports to the Estates Engineering Supervisor and is responsible for the reliable and compliant operation of estate-wide services and equipment across the client's Hertfordshire facility. The main goal is to deliver high standards of mechanical and electrical services, including routine scheduled maintenance with minimal disruption.
Key duties:
* On-call availability (1 week per month), including coverage for holidays and sickness.
* Perform routine preventative maintenance in critical and non-critical environments.
* Ensure work complies with current regulations and safety standards.
* Monitor Building Management System (BMS) for equipment status and alarms.
* Investigate faults, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
* Assist with installations and small projects as needed.
* Support team members according to experience and competencies.
General responsibilities:
* Complete and maintain documentation for statutory, H&S, and GxP standards.
* Coordinate contractor site inductions and enable safe work start.
* Propose initiatives for continuous improvement, efficiency, or cost reduction.
* Assess critical spares and review supply needs.
* Contribute positively to team efforts and standards.
* Minimize energy consumption through effective control of plant and systems.
* Provide feedback to supervisors as required.
Experience required:
* Engineering experience in regulated environments.
* Strong awareness of Health and Safety standards.
* Multiskilled in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
* Experience with steam boilers, blowdowns, and water treatment.
* Knowledge of VSDs, motor controls, and relay logic.
* Experience with domestic and low-temperature hot water systems.
* Familiarity with AHUs, FCUs, chilled water, and compressed air systems.
* Understanding of permit-to-work systems.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
* Flexibility to work outside standard hours when needed.
* Experience with CMMS and BMS systems.
* IOSH certification.
* Experience in critical environments and pharmaceuticals.
* Knowledge of water systems and associated risks (e.g., ACoPs L8, water treatment).
Skills and aptitude required:
* Good organizational skills.
* Problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with conflicting requirements.
* Flexibility to adapt to changing site needs.
