We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.
We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!
Your role:
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting families to join our Family Hub Team at Walmesley Road in Leigh. As Family Hub Co-Ordinator, you’ll lead the day-to-day coordination of services, manage Early Years Workers and a Business Support Officer, and build strong community partnerships. You’ll enhance the volunteer offer, co-produce services based on local needs, and deliver activities that promote mental health awareness and reduce health inequalities. This dynamic role focuses on building family resilience, capturing lived experiences to shape future support, and requires leadership, creativity, initiative, and a strong commitment to collaborative working.
About you:
We’re looking for a qualified professional with experience in early years, preventative services, and community collaboration. You’ll need strong leadership skills, having managed teams and worked across agencies. A deep understanding of health inequalities and early help is essential, along with the ability to co-produce services with families and partners. You’ll be confident in chairing meetings, supervising staff, and managing change. Strong communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving are key, as is a commitment to professional development.
You will be enthusiastic, motivated and able to work on your own, as well as part of a team. You will have a good understanding of how adverse childhood experiences impact on children’s mental and physical health and development and knowledge of Early Help and other support mechanisms for children and their families. You will be able to work flexibly with families, so they get the right support, in the right place at the right time. Please note this role will involve being able to work flexibly to support the Family Hub when operational which can involve occasional evening and weekends.
A knowledge and understanding of Family Hubs would be an advantage but not essential.
About us:
Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.
The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.
The Family Hubs Team coordinate each of our Family Hubs which are a new way of bringing together all the support a family may need, from pregnancy through to young people turning 19 (or 25 if they have a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND). Family hubs operate as a network of services within neighbourhoods to provide accessible and connected services and support to all families. These services work together to provide high quality support for the whole family, so that children, young people, and families get the right help at the right time.
Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for #TeamWigan.
