Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Pelvic Health Outpatient Physiotherapy team at North Bristol NHS Trust. Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is a growing and much needed specialty. We are looking for an excellent team player with an interest in pelvic health who is flexible, dynamic and open to change, to join our friendly and forward-thinking team.

This role is a mix of clinical, administrative and practical tasks to support the Pelvic Health team.

In return we will provide clinical supervision, opportunities and development through a well-developed supervision structure which will provide the opportunity to build on and extend your expertise and develop your skills.

Main duties of the job

To work as an integral and active part of the North Bristol Trust Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Team. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the physiotherapy team in the provision of a patient centred service, in an efficient and cost-effective way.

The post holder will assist in the overall management of patients within pelvic health physiotherapy. This will include, but is not limited to, the following patient groups: antenatal (during pregnancy), post-natal (following childbirth), pre and post gynaecological surgery. And may involve management of the following conditions: pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction including incontinence and prolapse.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please refer to the attached job description for full details of the main duties and responsibilities that the post holder is required to undertake

Clinical:

1. To deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment as designed by physiotherapist without direct supervision. This could include patient education and advise, exercises as individual or group, and other alternatives in various settings.
2. To organise own workload within delegated area
3. Support the pelvic health physiotherapy team in the day to day running of the service.

Administrative:

4. To undertake administrative tasks eg. filing, photocopying and assisting with class organization and compiling databases, sending appointment letters, setting up exercise/education groups.
5. To undertake as directed any housekeeping duties eg. cleaning of equipment, tidying work areas, changing beds, replenishing First Aid Boxes and Resuscitation Trolley


Professional:

6. To demonstrate safe use of equipment to patients and carers including walking aids or support belts.
7. To work within Departmental, Trust and CSP guidelines and policies. To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards of practice
8. To participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with the agreed objectives and personal development programme to meet set knowledge and competencies, plus service needs.
9. To supervise physiotherapy assistants where appropriate.
10. To deliver in-service training sessions as appropriate – Junior, Dept, assistants and students.
11. To undertake as directed the collection of data for use in service audit, research or monitoring of service.

Person specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria

12. Evidence of literacy and numeracy skills.
13. NVQ level 3 / appropriate level apprenticeship in care (or the desire to work towards).
14. Good standard of secondary education to GCSE level
15. Evidence of a continued desire to learn and develop self

Work Experience

Essential criteria

16. Previous NHS or social care experience.

Desirable criteria

17. Experience of working in an NHS healthcare setting, preferably in rehabilitation
18. Sports or exercise rehabilitation background including exercise prescription and progression, preferably within a healthcare setting

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria

19. Demonstrate good communication skills, verbal and written
20. Essential IT skills
21. Demonstrate good time management including punctuality and ability to prioritise workloads
22. Ability to work effectively as part of a team
23. Experience of undertaking general administrative duties
24. Experience of teaching a basic skill
25. Ability to problem solve
26. Demonstrate ability to undertake manual handling requirements of the post

Desirable criteria

27. Experience of delivering exercise programmes
28. Experience using written or electronic patient records and data
29. Demonstrate ability to work flexibly by using own initiative

The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
