Offer description

We’re recruiting a Police Constable to join our team within the Emergency Response unit at the Port of Felixstowe.

Reporting directly to a Police Sergeant, you will conduct operational requirements of Port Policing and security strategy within the dock estate, as well as any required emergency or contingency response needs.

No previous police or security background is needed. Full training will be provided to the successful candidates, including attend and passing annual personal safety training, and pass a basic law course and successfully complete a one-year probationary period.

This role will involve:

1. Stay current with criminal law through ongoing self-directed learning.
2. Enforce Health & Safety legislation, operational procedures, and road safety strategies for all Port Users.
3. Ensure compliance with AEO standards, ISPS Code, and Port Security Regulations.
4. Report and investigate incidents per unit policy and UK law.
5. Respond to assistance requests professionally and impartially.
6. Continuously seek improvements in working practices to support business goals.
7. Perform police and security duties in line with established performance standards.
8. Promote safe working practices and suggest improvements to policies and procedures.
9. Protect individuals, property, and cargo within dock estates.
10. Conduct dynamic risk assessments to ensure health and safety during police tasks.

The successful candidate should meet the following criteria:

11. Full Clean Driving Licence (manual and automatic use)
12. Ability to show resilience due to working long periods, during emergency situations and other operational requirements in all weather conditions.
13. Ability to cope with changing work priorities in a pressurised and demanding environment on a 24/7 basis.
14. Good communication skills both written and oral to be able to enforce at times a level of influence, negotiation and direction.
15. Able to work effectively, accurately to deliver timely, high-quality work which is technically and grammatically correct.

Applicants will be vetted to NPPV Level 2 including financial checks. Appointments will not be confirmed until acceptable vetting results are achieved, along with a Medical Assessment in-line with National Medical Standards for Police Recruitment.

18. Stage 1 of the interview process will be an assessment day. This is due to take place 5th, 6th and 7th November. More information will be sent to the successful candidates prior to the assessment.
19. Interviews will be taking place week commencing 17th November. This will involve a presentation and a competency-based interview.
20. After the interviews we will be in touch as soon as possible to let you know if you have been successful—this should be by 26th November.
