Are you passionate about delivering excellent customer service and ensuring our highways are safe and well-maintained? We’re looking for a customer-focused Highway Inspector to join our dedicated Projects Management team At Solihull Council, we understand that the quality of our highways and public spaces plays a vital role in supporting residents’ health and wellbeing, fostering thriving communities, attracting investment, and creating a sense of pride in our local area. About the Role As a Highway Inspector, you will enjoy a varied and autonomous role, covering the full spectrum of highways responsibilities. From carrying out statutory inspections and monitoring contract compliance to supporting local plans and projects, you’ll make a real difference to the safety and quality of our borough. Working closely with neighbourhoods, councillors, stakeholders, and delivery partners, you’ll respond to enquiries, identify priorities, and resolve a range of issues to keep our highways safe and accessible. What We’re Looking For To succeed in this role, you’ll bring: A relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience and training. A willingness to undertake further training. Knowledge of neighbourhoods and the importance of maintaining a clean, green, and safe environment. Experience in working with a wide range of customers and handling complex queries and challenging situations. Strong partnership skills to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders. Flexibility to participate in the out-of-hours standby rota for winter maintenance and emergency highways services. This is an essential car user role. You will be required to travel across the borough to oversee a range of neighbourhood projects. Applicants must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle. You will also have access to use of electric vehicles supplied by Solihull Council. Reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants where required.
