Graduate Electrical Engineer – Power Systems & Energy Storage - Wales
Start your engineering career at one of the UK’s most advanced power generation and energy storage facilities. This opportunity sits within a major energy operator managing large-scale hydro and pumped storage assets critical to the UK’s electricity network. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a safety-critical environment while developing core electrical engineering skills across real-world plant operations.
This is a structured 24-month graduate programme designed to transition you from academic study into professional engineering practice. You’ll rotate across key technical areas, building expertise in power systems, plant performance and engineering delivery, with clear progression into a long-term engineering role.
What you’ll be doing
* Supporting engineering teams to investigate, diagnose and resolve plant-level electrical and operational issues
* Contributing to performance improvement through analysis, maintenance techniques and inspection methods
* Producing and reviewing technical documentation, ensuring clear communication across stakeholders
* Collaborating with system designers, project teams and external partners on engineering activities
* Assisting with factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning and plant configuration
* Supporting troubleshooting and validation testing alongside experienced site engineers
* Gaining exposure to power systems including generators, control systems, protection, AC/DC distribution and monitoring systems
* Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability, safety and efficiency
Key criteria
* Degree (Bachelor’s 2:2 or Master’s) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline (power systems modules highly advantageous)
* Strong interest in power generation, energy storage or the renewable energy sector
* Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
* Analytical mindset with the ability to solve technical problems
* Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
* Proactive, adaptable and eager to learn in a hands-on engineering environment
* Comfortable working in a safety-critical operational setting
* Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Location
Wales-based role at a major hydro/pumped storage power station, with on-site working required due to the operational nature of the role
