This opportunity sits within a major energy operator managing large-scale hydro and pumped storage assets critical to the UK’s electricity network. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a safety-critical environment while developing core electrical engineering skills across real-world plant operations.

This is a structured 24-month graduate programme designed to transition you from academic study into professional engineering practice. You’ll rotate across key technical areas, building expertise in power systems, plant performance and engineering delivery, with clear progression into a long-term engineering role.

What you’ll be doing

* Contributing to performance improvement through analysis, maintenance techniques and inspection methods
* Producing and reviewing technical documentation, ensuring clear communication across stakeholders
* Collaborating with system designers, project teams and external partners on engineering activities
* Assisting with factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning and plant configuration
* Supporting troubleshooting and validation testing alongside experienced site engineers
* Gaining exposure to power systems including generators, control systems, protection, AC/DC distribution and monitoring systems
* Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability, safety and efficiency

Key criteria

* Degree (Bachelor’s 2:2 or Master’s) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline (power systems modules highly advantageous)
* Strong interest in power generation, energy storage or the renewable energy sector
* Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
* Analytical mindset with the ability to solve technical problems
* Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
* Proactive, adaptable and eager to learn in a hands-on engineering environment
* Comfortable working in a safety-critical operational setting
* Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Location

Wales-based role at a major hydro/pumped storage power station, with on-site working required due to the operational nature of the role

What’s on offer

* Structured 24-month graduate engineering programme with rotations across key technical areas
* Direct exposure to large-scale power generation and energy storage infrastructure
* Hands-on experience in plant operations, maintenance and engineering delivery
* Mentorship from experienced engineers and structured development reviews
* Opportunity to specialise in areas aligned to your interests and career goals
* Clear pathway into a permanent engineering role within the business
