Senior Family Therapist

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to lead on the delivery of family based interventions and systemic psychotherapy within Cardiff and Vales Children and Young Peoples Eating Disorders Team. The successful candidate will be working within a Psychology‑led multi‑disciplinary team consisting of Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, Nurses, Medics (Psychiatry and Paediatric) and a Dietitian; also two Specialist Eating Disorder transition clinicians embedded within the team. The team has developed rapidly over the past four years and has clear processes for service delivery and risk management, with strong links to the wider Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Service (including core interventions, SPOA, Crisis and CITT amongst others). The successful candidate will therefore have access to peer support from other Family Therapists working across the service.
Main duties of the job
The role of a Senior Family Therapist is highly valued and respected within the team to ensure fidelity and adherence to the main evidence‑based intervention for children and adolescents with an Eating Disorder. Key activities include:
* Conducting assessments of service users with complex needs.
* Delivering specialist therapeutic interventions and contributing to formulation.
* Providing consultation and supporting families with care planning.
* Designing and delivering interventions within children and young people’s Eating Disorder services.
* Working within a multidisciplinary team throughout each stage of a young person’s journey.
Part‑time posting. Ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are welcome to apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications:
* UKCP accredited Family/Systemic Therapist.
* Honours degree and postgraduate qualification in Family Therapy.
* Other related academic qualification.
Experience:
* Significant experience as a family therapist implementing evidence‑based family therapy.
* Experience supervising/managing other family therapists and other professionals.
Skills:
* Highly developed skills in systemic practice, family therapy interviewing, training packages, and consultation.
Special knowledge:
* In-depth knowledge of systemic theory and practice.
* Knowledge of research design and methodology within family therapy.
* Knowledge of legislation relevant to children.
* Evidence of ongoing CPD.
* Ability to manage organisational stress and support others in managing distressing clinical material.
* Flexible approach to MDT working and capability to work in highly complex and changing contexts.
