Job Description:
Salary Range:£2,120 - £5,652 per annum, plus additional incident call out payments
Work Location: Ryde Fire Station
Hours per week:Minimum of 31 on-call hours per week
Contract Type:Permanent
The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with their community. They maintain their everyday lives and jobs until their pager sounds, then they become professional firefighters.
The work may be called ‘part-time’, but on-call firefighters are trained and experienced professionals on the front line, saving lives and protecting communities. They are paid for their services, receive thorough training, and learn essential skills for emergency situations.
On-call firefighters come from all areas of the community, including men and women who are at home, in employment, self-employed, studying, or unemployed. They dedicate their time to assist the fire and rescue service and protect their communities.
This role is demanding but rewarding, offering the chance to make a real contribution. You will build close working relationships with team members, which is crucial during emergencies, and participate in community events.
On-call firefighters are involved in various situations beyond fighting fires, such as community fire safety, flooding, co-responding, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
Previous Experience:
No prior experience is needed as training is provided. Enthusiasm and meeting certain essential requirements are important. You must be able to reach the fire station quickly and safely after being alerted. Physical fitness is vital due to the physically demanding nature of the role.
Please note: To be eligible to apply, you must work and/or live within 5 minutes of the Fire Station. Applications from those outside this radius will be rejected.
