The role
This role leads and champions co‑production and lived‑experience engagement across Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke, ensuring service user voices meaningfully shape care, therapy provision and service development in line with Cygnet values. Working under the supervision of the Occupational Therapy team, the Co‑production Lead facilitates the People’s Council, enabling service users to influence decisions and improvements at ward and hospital level. The role supports vocational rehabilitation, meaningful activity and community engagement, building links with external resources that promote recovery, inclusion and future opportunities. It contributes to therapeutic, recovery‑focused and quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, promoting inclusive and collaborative practice. The position requires initiative, autonomy and strong relationship‑building skills with service users, staff and community partners.
Summary of the site
Cygnet Kewstoke is a 71‑bedded mental health hospital which provides emergency acute and PICU admission services for men and women, a pathway for men to rehabilitation as well as a specialist female service for personality disorder. Cygnet Kewstoke are developing co‑produced and therapeutic spaces across the site and extensive grounds, allowing multiple opportunities for staff and patient development and engagement, from a service‑user led café to farm/horticulture area on the grounds, as well as on‑site gym and therapy rooms. The hospital is in a small village near Weston‑Super‑Mare, close to the beach and other nature settings but also a stone’s throw away from a vibrant seaside town.
Responsibilities and qualifications
* A strong commitment to co‑production, lived‑experience involvement and recovery‑focused practice.
* Experience of engaging service users meaningfully and supporting them to influence decisions and service development.
* The ability to facilitate groups or forums (e.g. People’s Council) in a supportive, empowering and inclusive way.
* An understanding of vocational rehabilitation, meaningful activity and their role in recovery.
* Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with service users, staff and external partners.
* Experience of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
* The confidence to promote inclusive, collaborative and trauma‑informed approaches to care.
* The ability to work autonomously, using initiative and good judgement, while seeking appropriate supervision.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to contribute to service improvement and quality initiatives.
* A positive, proactive and values‑led approach aligned with Cygnet’s values.
