Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a self motivated, confident team player to build and manage a group of Day Care Hosts and their clients for The Filo Project in North Devon. Ideally you will live fairly centrally in North Devon, as you will be required to travel throughout the area.
What will you be doing?
You will be required to manage a team of Day Care Hosts in your area, from induction onwards. This will include, for example, carrying out risk assessments of the hosts home, coordinating holiday cover and completing appraisals. You will need to flexible and creative in managing your time to ensure things run smoothly.
You will have evidence of good administrative skills, as well as an understanding of the needs of older people. Excellent communication skills are essential and you will need to demonstrate diplomacy and sensitivity, as you will be liaising with clients and their families, and stakeholders such as GPs and social workers, as well as your hosts, building relationships for the benefit of the organisation. A background in the NHS or Social work could be an advantage.
You will be an ambassador for The Filo Project, speaking to various organisations about provision in your area, and taking a lead on attending events and meetings, to ensure that those who need our services know we are able to help.

Area Coordinator Job Description
Pay and Hours
£13.48 per hour plus expenses for mileage, and holiday accrued pro rata
Part time flexible contract - up to a maximum of 15 hours across the week, working from home and in your local area, depending on the needs of the organisation. There may be some quieter weeks, and some that are busier. This contract allows you, and The Filo Project, flexibility to manage your time.
6 weeks paid holiday per annum, pro rata.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- To promote The Filo Project in your local area and establish and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders and service users.
- To arrange and complete risk assessments at the homes of potential new hosts.
- To induct new hosts into their roles, arranging shadowing and training as required.
- To carry out appraisals of the hosts in your area.
- To accurately carry out administration tasks as the role requires, in a timely manner. This will include management of your hosts and clients.
- To arrange and carry out client assessments at the clients home as referrals are received. This may be done by the Area Coordinator, or allocated to a Client Assessor. It is then the role of the Area coordinator to manage the client into a group.
- To foster and maintain good working relationships with clients and their families, as well as the hosts in their area. This will involve periodic visits to clients and hosts homes and groups.
- To manage host groups on a day to day basis as needs change, ensuring for example that there is holiday cover.
Work Environment
- Lone working. You will be working from your own home and in the homes of your clients and hosts. In addition you will be attending meetings, and visiting stakeholders such as GP surgeries.
- You will receive an excellent induction and the support of the Area Coordinator Development Lead for the first 6 months of your role.
- You will liaise with the wider team including the recruitment manager, other Area Coordinators and Head Office to manage aspects of your role.
- You will have the support of the Filo Family Services team, and the Host and Staff Wellbeing team
- You will be given training in Dementia, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
Person Specification
Essential requirements
- Confidence as a lone worker, and also a good team player
- Self-motivation
- Evidence of good organisational skills and time management
- A flexible and creative approach to your work
- An understanding of the needs of older people
- A caring and empathetic disposition
- Good IT skills
- Excellent face to face and written communication
- A good telephone manner
- A clean valid driving licence and use of your own car
- Good people skills. The ability to foster relationships and build teams.
Desirable Skills
- Supervisory experience, or experience of team management
- Administrative experience
- A background in the NHS or Social work could be an advantage
The Filo Project
The Filo Project is a not-for-profit enterprise offering high quality, small group day care for older people. Small groups give time and space for people to feel at ease and form friendships.
The Filo Project started in Devon in 2014 and expanded to Somerset in 2020. The popularity of our model has seen continued expansion and we are delighted to announce that we are now moving into other counties, including East Lancashire in 2022, Cornwall in 2023, and Dorset in 2024.
Our service is primarily for those who are socially isolated and may also be experiencing symptoms associated with early to moderate dementia including memory loss. Our aim is to provide a socially stimulating environment where our clients feel valued and at ease.
