We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is passionate about Neurology and Stroke treatment and ready to put their ideas into action with the dynamic current team for maternity cover until May 2026 at Wycombe hospital on Hyperacute and Acute Stroke units.

There maybe a permanent post after this time.

The permanent post is 8 month Neurology rotations through the:

1. Stroke team at Wycombe Hospital on Hyperacute and Acute Stroke units
2. Buckinghamshire Neuro Rehabilitation and Wheelchair service at Amersham Hospital
3. Early Supported Stroke team in the Buckinghamshire community
4. Urology, Cardiology and Day assessment rotation at Wycombe hospital to maintain medical skills.

The Occupational Therapy Neurology team provides high quality stroke, medical assessment and acute rehabilitation with a Clinical specialist 8a Occupational Therapists, Band 7 Advanced Occupational Therapists, Band 6 Seniors, Band 5s, assistants and rehab engineers and has gained an A rated SSNAP score consistently for high quality!

You will work in our multidisciplinary team including Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Nurses and Speech and Language Therapists, setting goals, discharge plans, group work, home visits and liaising with other professionals and carers.

This is a very friendly, supportive and dynamic team with regular integrated individual supervision, appraisal, CPD, use of outcome measures and in service training.

Main duties of the job

5. To participate within complex rehabilitation and contribute to its function.
6. To undertake assessments of patients with complex and diverse presentations.
7. To undertake advanced, comprehensive, and where applicable, standardised assessments within the specialised clinical areas.
8. To use clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence based practice to determine treatment plan using a wide range of treatment skills and options.
9. To analyse and interpret clinical and non-clinical information to form an accurate diagnosis in a wide range of conditions, with guidance from specialist Occupational Therapists when appropriate.
10. To demonstrate highly developed assessment and therapeutic skills necessary for the treatment of patients.

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential criteria

20. Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to the specialist clinical area of post
21. Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/experience and utilize advanced clinical reasoning skills
22. Able to carry out a range of assessments and procedures in order to make clinical assessments and diagnosis
23. Able to carry out manual therapy techniques and therapeutic handling, requiring skilful and strenuous physical effort during the day
24. Awareness of limitations of own professional abilities
25. Clear, concise verbal and written communication to ensure liaison with multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers to ensure records and reports are accurate, legal and in legible manner (in English)
26. Ability to integrate, participate and contribute as an effective member of a team
27. Ability to self-direct towards the attainment of clear goals
28. Ability to prioritise tasks and functions against well-reasoned standards
29. Positive response to constructive criticism
30. Ability to plan, manage and organise required tasks within available resources (including time)
31. Use of and/or knowledge of POMR record keeping
32. Knowledge of Current related legislation (H&S, Data P. Act, etc)

Experience

Essential criteria

38. Previous experience of a broad rotational scheme including neuro
39. Attendance at post graduate courses in related fields and demonstrates reflective learning
40. Knowledge of areas of clinical governance including quality, audit and risk management
41. Experience of managing own caseload and prioritizing
42. Ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team and contribute to decision making
43. Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development, and reflective practice
44. Knowledge and application of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning
45. Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and reflective practice
46. Establish and maintain CPD Portfolio

Desirable criteria

47. Knowledge of areas of influence of psychosocial and cultural factors on health/illness behaviours
48. Experience in supervision of students and junior staff
49. Participation in audit, research activities and development activities
50. Experience of undertaking Senior (Band 6) role
51. Demonstration of having initiated change of practice or process
52. Experience in student clinical supervision

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

53. Current registration with Health Professions Council
54. Diploma /Degree in Occupational Therapy

Desirable criteria

55. Evidence of CPD in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
56. Specific formal courses appropriate to post speciality
57. Membership of professional special interest group
58. Field work/clinical educators’ course

Special Circumstances

Essential criteria

59. Able to fulfil the physical demands of the role subject to reasonable adjustment under the terms of the Disciplinary Discrimination Act 1995

60. Ability to participate in seven day working
61. Flexible to meet the needs of the service
