Overview

JOB TITLE: Consultant Adult Liaison Psychiatrist – Queens Hospital & Goodmayes 24hour Mental Health Crisis Assessment Hub (across both sites)

CONTRACT: 10 Programmed Activities (10 PAs). Substantive. Flexible working available – including job share, part-time, remote sessions considered. BASE: Queen’s Hospital, Barking, Havering and Redbridge. University Trust (BHRUT), Rom Valley Way, Romford, RM7 0AG and Block 8, Goodmayes Hospital, Barley Lane, Ilford, IG3 8XJ.

This is a new Consultant Adult Liaison Psychiatrist post created when an established consultant in the Psychiatric Liaison Service at Queen’s Hospital reduced their hours for work life balance and the available PAs were added to Consultant Programmed Activities in our new 24hour Enhanced Crisis Assessment Hub on the Goodmayes Hospital site. This is funded as ten Programmed Activities (10 PAs) post with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). The post is currently filled with a locum at both sites. It is a full-time substantive post and we would consider requests for flexible working, job share or fixed term if preferred.


Responsibilities

* Support their teams, the Directorate and the organisation to follow the Trust’s Values in day-to-day work: We are kind; We are respectful; We work with our communities.
* Work across two mental health teams aligned to the crisis pathway: the Psychiatric Liaison Service at Queens Hospital and the 24hour Mental Health Crisis Assessment Hub at Goodmayes.
* Act as consultant clinical lead in the multidisciplinary teams, providing direct clinical care to patients and supervision as appropriate.
* Demonstrate clinical and strategic leadership; supervise clinicians where appropriate; work with patients and families.
* Liaise with BHRUT colleagues, local community mental health services, inpatient and Home Treatment Team colleagues; build relationships with Emergency Department colleagues to improve patient care.
* Collaborate with current consultants in Liaison at Queens and other psychiatry staff; clinically supervise the Specialty Doctor placed in the 24hour Enhanced Crisis Assessment Hub.
* Lead on emergency Mental Health Act assessments in the ED liaison setting during working hours; contribute to Section 12 and 136 activity as required; participate in the HBPoS at Goodmayes.
* Provide care across ED at Queens and the Crisis Assessment Hub, including assessment and treatment planning for patients presenting in crisis; participate in 24hour duty doctor cover across Liaison teams and the Assessment hub out of hours.


On-call and Working Arrangements

* Senior Psychiatrist on-call rota for out-of-hours Mental Health Services in NELFT (1:50 rota); 3% Category A salary supplement.
* Daytime Section 136 rota (9am–5pm) with approximate frequency of 1 day every 3 months; all Section 12 approved doctors expected to lead on emergencies in the 136 suite at Goodmayes.


Qualifications and Context

* Consultant Psychiatrist with Approved Clinician (AC) certification; contribute to relational care and collaborative working in the Psychiatric Liaison Service of Queens Hospital and the 24hour Mental Health Crisis assessment hub at Goodmayes.
* Senior clinical lead in multidisciplinary teams, with involvement in direct clinical care and supervision as appropriate.
* Work with ED colleagues, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust (BHRUT) and community inpatient and Home Treatment Team colleagues.
* Work with two General Adult Consultant Psychiatrists, Old Age Consultant Psychiatrists, Specialty Doctors, senior trainee, and Foundation doctor across the team; supervise a Specialty Doctor in the 24hour Enhanced Crisis Assessment Hub.


Facilities and Pathways

* HBPoS designated Section 136 suite at Goodmayes; 136 rota supports MHA assessments with occasions for additional consultant review arranged during hub time.
* Lead on emergency Mental Health Act assessments of adults under Section 136 within the ED setting during ED hours; adhere to preferred pathways via HBPoS when possible.
* Post holder will direct, support or conduct assessment and treatment planning for crisis presentations at Queens ED or the Crisis Assessment Hub; 24hour duty doctor cover across Liaison teams and the Assessment hub out of hours.
