We are currently recruiting for a new assistant editor to join the Editorial Board of Reinvention: an International Journal of Undergraduate Research. The journal is published by the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL) at the University of Warwick.

We welcome applications from all undergraduate students at the University of Warwick, who reside in the UK, and who will be in the UK during the next academic year. We cannot accept anyone who is not residing in the UK, has graduated from university and not currently studying at Warwick.

An overview of the journal:

* Reinvention is an online, open access peer-reviewed journal, dedicated to the publication of high-quality undergraduate student research, published bi-annually, in April and October with occasional special issues.
* The journal welcomes papers written by student researchers independently or collaboratively with academics, the papers can be from any discipline and from any university around the world. On submission all papers undergo editorial screening and then if accepted to a rigorous academic peer-review when papers are reviewed by two or three anonymous referees.

An overview of the :

Our new assistant editor will join the Editorial Board which includes assistant editors and an editor, all are undergraduate students at the University of Warwick, and supported by Student Research based in IATL.

It’s a requirement that the collaborates with other members of the Editorial Board, as they will review papers and meet to discuss papers at Editorial Board meetings. In addition, there are development and training meetings on an ad hoc basis.

Primarily the supports the review of research papers submitted and then manages the peer review for accepted papers to support the publication of Reinvention. The assistant editor supports the author throughout the whole review and publication process.

The provides excellent experience working in journal publishing and is therefore suitable for anyone interested in a career in publishing. It’s also important that the applicant enjoys communication and engagement, as the engages with academics and student peers. The assistant editor also supports peers in feeling confident about their work and creating an inclusive space for undergraduate researchers.

Given that Reinvention houses top tier student research from a vast array of subjects, and written to communicate to a broad readership, it would be beneficial for the applicant to be passionate about student research dissemination and perhaps in diversifying the field of academic research by bringing new ideas to the table.

The of assistant editor is remote, so the applicant will need access to a computer. The hours will vary depending on workload and are up to five hours per week. Training will be provided as part of the .

Duties and responsibilities

The assistant editor will:

* Assess papers submitted to the journal by undergraduate students from around the world and give their feedback via an online forum and in regular editorial board meetings.
* Work on accepted papers to manage the peer review processes, liaising with the student authors and recruiting and communicating with academics to be the peer reviewers, as well as guiding the authors through the peer review and editing process.
* Have access to a computer to work remotely.
* Have the potential to represent the journal at Warwick events from time to time and very occasionally support other IATL student dissemination projects.

Skills and experience

We are looking for an enthusiastic undergraduate student who can work independently and as part of a team, often to tight deadlines and:

* Have excellent written communication skills.
* Be comfortable emailing and communicating with both students and academics from multiple institutions across the world.
* Have an interest, potentially with some experience, in undergraduate research communication and dissemination.
* Possess the ability to work proactively and use their own initiative.
* Be comfortable working remotely and at times collaborating virtually with a team.
