Job Description

JOB TITLE: Lead Quality Engineer (Data)

LOCATION: London or Bristol

HOURS: Full Time

WORKING PATTERN: We adopt a hybrid working style which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our London or Bristol office.

We are seeking a Lead Quality Engineer to join our Personalised Experiences and Communications Platform within our product engineering cross-functional teams. This role is pivotal in mentoring and coaching Quality Engineers (QEs) and other colleagues, driving process improvements, and ensuring quality is prioritized throughout the software development lifecycle.

The key responsibilities include guiding QEs and software engineers in quality engineering practices, resolving complex technical issues with excellent analytical skills, and continuously enhancing quality engineering processes. Additionally, the role involves developing and implementing automated testing strategies, staying updated with the latest QE practices and industry trends, overseeing QE governance within the platform, and engaging in technical communities to foster shared capabilities.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with extensive QE knowledge and a passion for delivering high-quality software solutions, focusing on building and managing a high-performing, autonomous team.

What you’ll need:

1. Proven experience in backend engineering, particularly with data-intensive, distributed, and low-latency systems.
2. Proven experience in Quality Engineering, with a focus on software automation.
3. Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development and testing.
4. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
5. Proficient in QE strategies and standard approaches in software testing.
6. Strong understanding of security principles and secure coding practices.
7. Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
8. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
9. Excellent communication and organisational skills.

And any experience of these would be really useful:

1. Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
2. Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
3. Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
4. Familiarity with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner).
5. Familiarity with data processing technologies (e.g., Spark) and cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud, AWS, Azure).
6. Understanding of data management principles and distributed system architectures.
